  • Personal Information: name, email, phone number, parent or legal guardian name and email (for users aged 13–17).
  • Content Data: videos, images, and challenge submissions.
  • Usage Data: device type, IP address, and app analytics.
  • Consent Data: parent or legal guardian consent records including date, time, and consent verification status.

3. Children’s Data & Parent/Legal Guardian Consent

  • CHALC Social Limited is intended for users 13 and older.
  • Users aged 13–17 must obtain verifiable parent or legal guardian consent before accessing the App.
  • Guardians will receive a verification email to confirm consent.
  • Consent records (guardian name, contact, timestamp, and status) are stored securely and retained until the user’s account is deleted or consent is withdrawn.
  • Users under 13 are not permitted to register, and any accounts found to belong to such users will be deleted.
  • Parents and Legal Guardians can withdraw consent or request deletion of their child’s account by emailing [email protected].

4. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • Operate and maintain the App.
  • Verify parent or legal guardian consent and age eligibility.
  • Host videos (via YouTube).
  • Moderate content to ensure community safety.
  • Communicate updates, policy changes, or safety alerts.
  • Use user content in marketing only with explicit consent (and guardian consent if under 18).

5. Sharing of Information

We may share limited information with:

  • Trusted service providers (e.g. YouTube) under confidentiality agreements.
  • For Legal Compliance.
  • No personal or content data is sold or shared for advertising purposes.

6. Data Retention

  • User and Parent or legal guardian consent records are retained for as long as the account is active or as required by law.
  • Users and guardians may request deletion by contacting [email protected].

7. Security

CHALC Social Limited implements the technical and organisational security measures required under Section 19 of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). These include:

  • encryption of data in transit and at rest;
  • access controls and authentication for authorised personnel only;
  • secure storage of guardian-consent and user records;
  • routine backups and integrity checks;
  • confidentiality agreements with employees and service providers; and
  • a breach-response procedure in accordance with Section 22 of POPIA.

We review and update these safeguards regularly to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of all personal information in our control.

8. Rights under POPIA

You (and your parent or legal guardian, if applicable) have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your data.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.
  • Object to processing.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
